A quick and easy recipe for a traditional and authentic Flammkuchen/Tarte flambee, imported into Australia as Thin French Pizza. While not traditionally done in France and Germany, the onion and bacon can be pre-cooked if desired. Serve and slice on a wooden board and share with family and friends, or enjoy it yourself!

Ingredients

  • 1 Midi Thin French Pizza Base

Base spread

  • 60 g sour cream
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Toppings

  • 1 rasher streaky bacon, sliced into thin strips
  • 1/4 onion, sliced into very fine wedges

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 250°C (conventional). Allow time to get it nice and hot!

  2. Mix the sour cream, salt and nutmeg together in a small bowl.

  3. Place the Midi Thin French Pizza base on a serving/preparation board.

  4. Spread the base mixture evenly over the base, leaving a small border along the edge. Sprinkle with onion first, then drape the bacon across the surface.

  5. Place on pizza stone or directly on oven rack and bake for around 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly brown and crisp, and the toppings are just starting to colour. Slice and enjoy!
